Well, I’ve been keeping busy. I’m putting the finishing touches on my new album, I have my first single in Icelandic coming soon and I’m playing my first live performance of this year tomorrow.
But I’ve also taken the time to watch some Netflix with my family. And recently they released a new film by Will Ferrell called The Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, which makes fun of the Eurovision Song Contest (if you’re not familiar, it’s a campy and weird phenomenon that everybody sort of loves and sort of hates), and also makes fun of Iceland and Icelanders. It’s one of my favorite comedies of all time. I’m sure I’ll put together a video about it soon.
Anyway, since I have a gig with my folk band tomorrow, I decided to take a ballad from that movie and turn it into a folk-pop song, and we recorded it and put it out there!
If you’re not familiar with the song, here’s the original version:
Also, if you haven’t already seen it, I can’t recommend the Eurovision film highly enough. I’m especially curious to hear what you think if you’re not familiar with the Eurovision Song Contest. Maybe it’s only funny if you are, but I’d love to hear it, so please leave a comment!
Here’s the trailer for the film:
Let me know what you think of the song, in the comments below, and if you have suggestions for more covers for me to do on my YouTube channel, I’d love to know.
Cheers, and folk on!
Didn’t think I would enjoy the film but I did it was hilarious
I agree. I thought it would be crap, but I laughed harder than I have in a while. Of course, being Icelandic made it even funnier.
Hey Eyvi. I like your version of Húsavík … and the original version too. Both have cool attributes and are enjoyable to listen to. Did I hear mandolin in your song?
So glad you like it. 🙂
Yes, this is from my folk band Góða fólkið (The Good People), which has a fantastic mandolin player.
