Down By the River – lyrics

DOWN BY THE RIVER

I once met a man and he told me his tale
Of the women he’d known down by the river
And none of these women he’d known before
Or seen them again after he took them
Down to the river

He asked all these women to follow him down
And then he drove them down to the river
He loved them so sweetly in the grass
Between the rocks, down in the meadow
Down by the river

They all seemed to fall for his weird drifter charm
And his sweet words, down by the river
And although they never expected that much
They still got much more than they bargained for
Down by the river

All of those women he told me about
Were images of beauty down by the river
And all of them loved him and he loved them all
And carried them with him after he loved them
Down by the river

All of those women he told me about
Are long dead and ravaged down by the river
And all those who loved him are dead and gone
He stabbed and he drowned them
He strangled and maimed them
He raped and he murdered them
And left with a kiss
He told me all this
Down by the river
Down by the river
Down by the river
